Pray for Our Fellow Dominicans in Iraq

Please pray for our fellow Dominicans in Iraq. The following was sent out not long after the current situation began:

Bad news. I am writing to you in a very critical situation and apocalyptic violence in Mossoul. The most part of the inhabitants of the city have already abandoned their homes and flee in the villages and sleep under the stars without anything to eat or drink. Several thousands of armed men of Islamist groups of Da’sh, have attacked the town of Mosul for two days. They have murdered both the old and the young. Corpses by hundred are abandoned in the streets and in the houses without mercy. The armed forces and police as well as the governor have fleed from them and the city. In the mosques they shout “Allah Akbar, vive the Islamic State”. Qaraqosh(where the majority of the Christians are — and many of the Dominicans) is crammed with the refugees of all kinds, without food and shelter. Check points and the Kurdish forces prevent the countless waves of refugees to enter in Kurdistan. What we are seeing and living is horrible and catastrophic for the last two days. The convent of Mar Behnam and other churches have fallen this morning in the hands of the rebels, …. and behold, they have returned in Quaraqosh about five minutes ago and we are all surrounded and threatened by the death ….. pray for us. Sorry I can no longer continue … They are not far from our conventDo not respond …. The Tuesday, June 10, 2014 12:20 PM

Year of the Dominican Laity Congress

The Year of the Dominican Laity Congress will be held in Dallas, TX from August 7th-9th. This is an opportunity for the entire Dominican family to renew the Or-der for the sake of its fidelity to its preaching mission; an oppor-tunity for the Order to enter into a dynamic process of renewal. …… “to direct our attention to Lay Dominicans in a context in which the Order of Preachers is particularly called for a renewal of zeal for evangelization. It is a time to reflect on the laity and their essential role in witnessing and proclaiming the Gospel.” Celebrating the Feast of St. Dominic with the Dominican Family.

Diocesan Consecration to the Sacred Heart

On June 26th at the Cathedral of the Incarnation the diocese of Nashville will be consecrated and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It has been requested that the following novena prayer be said from June 17th to June 26th:

Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, I come to you to entrust myself and my entire family to Your Two Heart. I desire to renew the vows of my baptism and place each member of my family ~ through an act of faith, hope and love ~ into loving union with the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I dedicate myself and each member of my family to the Guardian Angels God has given each one of us. O Holy Guardian Angels, enlighten, guide, and protect each one so as to lead us safely home to heaven.

Our brothers, the friars of the Dominican House of Studies recently held two different evangelization events on the streets of D.C.: one singing, praying, and preaching in front of a D.C. metro stop, and another walking through the streets for a day-long pilgrimage. Photos and videos available below. More info at their website.
