Hope Among the Ruins: Following Jesus in the Dark Night of the Culture

The days of comfortable Christianity are over.

The challenge of faithfully following Christ is becoming much more clear—and
ever so much more demanding. The “naked public square” describes a public
arena where Christian beliefs and practices are increasingly off-limits. In the
private realm, alternatives to biblical Christianity have multiplied enormously in
the past fifty years. This new situation demands a rethinking of our place and our
role in American culture.

How do we follow Jesus in a post-Christian culture? Michael Poore, founder of the Humanitas Forum on Christianity and Culture, will tackle this question in his lecture “Hope Among the Ruins: Following Jesus in the Dark Night of Culture.” Sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Adult Formation, this talk is free and open to the public. Thursday, November 17 at 7pm at the Catholic Pastoral Center.

Michael is an evangelical Christian who founded The Humanitas Forum to examine what it means to be a Christian in each of the public sectors of our secular society—the arts, the media, medicine, law, education, technology, popular culture, government, business, science, industry, and agriculture.
