As part of the nine year novena leading up to the 800th Jubilee Year of the Founding of the Dominican Order, the Dominican Laity of the Southern Province of St. Martin de Porres will be raffling off the \u201cBrother Broom\u201d quilt as part of their fundraising efforts for hosting this year\u2019s Congress in August in Dallas, TX.<\/p>\n
The \u201cBrother Broom\u201d quilt is an artistic expression of the patron saint of the Southern Province rendered in a folkloric style. \u00a0St Martin is pictured with his broom and two of his animal friends. \u00a0A rosary and a crucifix complete the saint\u2019s iconography. \u00a0As St Martin was biracial, the pieced border surrounding the saint is of two colors representative of his parents. \u00a0Dominican crosses burst out from the center of each pieced square to celebrate St Martin\u2019s membership as one of our Order.<\/p>\n
